Michelle -- excuse me, Queen Michelle
-- is the punk rock ballerina behind the underground fashion & lifestyle blog Kingdom of Style
Since 2006 Michelle and her co-blogger Marie have been sharing layering tips, music recommendations, design inspiration and a serious love for patterns with their readers. The two hail from Glasgow in Scotland and our Queen is 38 -- which I think contributes to the success of the blog (her age, not her hometown). Kingdom of Style is so much more than the average "OMFG runway lewwks, Dolce & Gabbana I DIE" 20-something fashion blog. The writing is mature and insightful and it is evident that the topics covered stem from a true interest and love. The fashion posts often have a clear emphasis on wearability and have an "everyday" vibe.

The outfit pictured above was created by Michelle as part of a promotion by the store Bengt for Online Fashion Week. She is a master of mixing fabric textures and knows how to keep things subtle yet still extremely interesting. Her bold style is often punctuated by leathers, feathers and every shade of black. She dresses fearlessly -- although with her perfectly skinny body there isn't much that won't look good!
Her personal style is distinctly well developed and she's been around the block with trends. She understands the cyclical nature of fashion -- in an interview with The Mode Journal
Michelle was asked to discuss her thoughts on the evolution of fashion. She responded, "In my opinion fashion doesn’t evolve, it revolves. It goes round and round and round and with each revolution something new is added, but it’s still essentially what’s been before." Her outfit posts feature her extensive collection of tried and true timeless classics but always with a twist.
The blog extends well beyond just fashion. Michelle is a graphic designer on the weekdays, ballerina on the weekends and a blogger extraordinaire in between. And for all the other ballerinas out there -- Michelle put together a fabulous What to Wear to Ballet
feature! Her love for punk and rock'n'roll heavily influences her style -- and her collection of vintage band tees is recognized web-wide.

The blogger-o-sphere is becoming more overpopulated by the minute and it's increasingly difficult to find content worth your time with the large level of generic fashion blogs clogging up the scene. It's so refreshing to find a blog that pushes beyond the norm and puts the spotlights on lesser known aspects of our culture -- emerging designers, artists to know and musicians meant to be on your iPod. That's why you need to bookmark Kingdom of Style right now, add it to your reader and check it on the daily.
